Bill worked for 37 years within the power utility Energy Australia/Ausgrid where he was closely involved in earthing and lightning protection. Since 2014 he has operated as a specialist engineer consulting to utilities and industry regarding the management of earthing and lightning and since 2022 has been based in the UK. His expertise covers design, performance review, testing, policy development, training and risk management in sectors including power generation, transmission and distribution, heavy and light industry, mining and rail.
He is active in Australian and international standards and industry committees including IEEE, Cigre and Cenelec, and has played a key role in developing the application of quantified risk as a tool in the management of earthing system related risk.
